What is Global Mala Victoria?
Following a great event last year, Jala Yoga and UnitedNow! at the United Way of Greater Victoria
(UWGV) have partnered again for Global Mala 2011. This event will bring together the Victoria yoga
community for a collective practice to promote peace and awareness, while raising funds to address
key local issues. As we complete 108 sun salutations, there will be DJ’s, speakers, great prizes (yoga
gear and studio passes) and a chance to support a great cause.
Which Yoga Studios are involved?
Global Mala Victoria will be led by teachers from a number of different local studios and approaches.
Studios represented include Jala Yoga, Moksha, Moksana, Yoga Shala, Baselounge, Hemma, Down
Dawg, Deer Leap, Kula Studio and Soul Arch.
How do I register?
Global Mala Victoria is a Drop-In Event, admission is a suggested minimum $10 donation (payable at
door). Registration is not mandatory; however, it is encouraged to reserve your spot. You can
register at Hemma, Moksha, Lululemon or by email: unitednow@uwgv.ca.
What will my donation support?
All proceeds from Global Mala Victoria will go to support the UWGV’s 2011 Campaign. Funds raised
at this event will stay in the local community and will be specifically directed towards the UWGV’s
impact area of “Healthy People, Strong Communities.”
What is UnitedNow?
UnitedNow! was developed by the UWGV to promote awareness, leadership and volunteering on
Southern Vancouver Island. UnitedNow! organizes events and activities focused on increasing
awareness of local issues, developing understanding of the important role of the UWGV and helping
people to learn about the how they can get more involved in their community.
What is the Global Mala Project?
This annual event is going into its fifth year and coincides with UN’s International Day of Peace as
well as the Fall Equinox. Global Mala events are taking place in countries around the world on
September 24th and 25th bringing together the global yoga community for practices based on the
sacred cycle of 108, peace and positive change.
Do I really have to do 108 Sun Salutations!?!
While 108 sounds like a lot, your Victoria teachers will provide a variety of options and support so
everyone from beginner to expert can enjoy this great event and be part of creating a “mala around
the earth.”
